Power is a measure of maximal amount of work that can be performed by the muscles in the shortest time frame (see
Strength and Power – What’s the Difference
for a more comprehensive description of power). This assessment aims to measure the power of the upper and lower body and the whole body as a unit. For upper body power, the subject will be tested on the maximal number of clap push-ups they can perform. For lower body power determination, the subject’s maximum vertical leap will be measured. For total body power, the athlete or subject may be asked to perform several types of throws using a medicine ball.
